METIS is a Haag-Streit operating microscope for ophthalmic surgery. It combines apochromatic optics, motorised zoom and coaxial red-reflex LED illumination. Programmable controls, XY movement and electromagnetic brakes support surgical positioning. Fundus viewing and 4K documentation depend on the optional modules selected for the ASEM configuration.
The microscope uses apochromatic optics with a 25 mm stereo base. Motorised zoom has a 1:6 ratio. At a 200 mm working distance, magnification ranges from 3.9× to 23.2×; with the 175 mm objective it ranges from 4.4× to 26.6×. These ranges describe two different optical configurations and must not be conflated. Depth of field is motor-adjustable.
LED illumination combines a coaxial red reflex and spot/slit illumination. A retinal protection filter is documented. Red-reflex positioning and illumination settings depend on the surgical workflow. The brochure also describes a motorised soft-blue filter. Manufacturer illustrations show METIS without any added synthetic device.
XY movement covers 60 × 60 mm. Tilt ranges from −20° to +110° and rotation reaches 540°. Interpupillary distance adjusts from 55 to 75 mm. Focus travel is +17 / −33 mm. Two handles each provide four programmable controls, while the wireless foot control has fourteen functions. Electromagnetic brakes support repositioning.
EIBOS 2 is an optional wide-angle fundus viewing module. The brochure describes a high-definition macular lens and an optional assistant microscope. Accessories shown in a photograph are not necessarily standard equipment. The ASEM quotation must identify the modules, objectives and accessories selected for the intended use.
4K documentation is optional. The described system includes a 27-inch touch display and a 3840 × 2160 colour camera at 30 fps. Stated storage is 4 TB, with JPG and MPEG-4 H.265 formats. MIOS supports documentation and surgery profiles. USB, DisplayPort, Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections refer to this documentation option, not to standard microscope equipment.
Weight of the system on its stand: 315 kg. Door clearance height: 1891 mm. Maximum arm reach: 1320 mm. Power supply: 100–120 / 220–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Maximum apparent power: 450 VA. The brochure gives two different stand widths (789 and 798 mm); this dimension and access requirements must be confirmed with ASEM before installation. No single overall footprint is invented.
